Amber & Ash — Privacy Policy
Effective date: 06/14/2026
Publisher: Bonnie Bluewater, publisher of Amber & Ash (the “Publication,” “we,” “us,” or “our”)
This Privacy Policy explains how the Publisher handles information in connection with Amber & Ash. It supplements, and does not replace, the Substack Privacy Policy. Amber & Ash is hosted on Substack, and Substack and its payment processor (Stripe) collect and process most reader data directly under their own policies. This policy describes the limited information the Publisher accesses and how it is used.
1. Information We Access
Through the Substack platform, the Publisher may access:
Contact information — your email address, and your name or display name if you provide one.
Subscription information — whether you are a free or paid subscriber and your subscription status. Payment and card details are collected and processed by Substack and Stripe; the Publisher does not see or store your full payment card information.
Content you submit — comments, replies, messages, or chat contributions you make on the Publication.
Engagement information — aggregate or per-reader analytics that Substack provides, such as opens, views, and subscriber growth.
2. How We Use Information
We use this information to:
deliver the Publication and send posts, updates, and announcements you’ve subscribed to;
respond to your comments, messages, and questions;
understand how content is received and grow the Publication;
manage subscriptions and process them through Substack; and
comply with legal obligations.
3. Payments
All payments are processed by Substack and Stripe. The Publisher does not collect, see, or store your full credit card or banking details. Their handling of payment data is governed by Substack’s and Stripe’s privacy policies.
4. How Information Is Shared
We do not sell your personal information. Information is shared only:
with Substack and its service providers (such as Stripe and email delivery) as needed to operate the Publication;
where you have made it public yourself, such as in a comment; and
where required by law, legal process, or to protect rights and safety.
5. Cookies and Tracking
Cookies, analytics, and similar tracking technologies on the Publication are managed by the Substack platform and governed by Substack’s Privacy Policy. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser and Substack settings.
6. Your Choices and Rights
You can update your email, manage your subscription, or unsubscribe at any time through your Substack account or the unsubscribe link in any email.
Depending on where you live (for example, residents of California or the European Union/EEA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information. Many of these requests are handled directly through Substack; you may also contact us using the details below, and we will honor applicable requests to the extent the information is within our control.
7. Data Retention
We retain access to subscriber information for as long as you remain subscribed and as needed to operate the Publication or comply with legal obligations. Most underlying data is retained and deleted according to Substack’s own retention practices.
8. Children’s Privacy
Amber & Ash is intended for readers 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided information, please contact us so it can be addressed.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above. Your continued use of the Publication after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
